Research Grants

Research Grants support stays in Germany between 1- 12 months in length and are typically awarded to highly-qualified PhD candidates traveling to Germany to conduct dissertation-related research. Research Grants may also be awarded to Master’s students in exceptional circumstances.

Long-Term Research Grants

A long-term research grant can offer you the chance to pursue a 7-12 month research project in Germany, or support your study stay in Germany as part of a Cotutelle Doctoral Program between a Canadian and German university.

Short-Term Research Grants

If you are looking for a short-term opportunity to pursue a research project in Germany, take a look at our short-term research grants. They are awarded for stays from 1-6 months and applications take place twice per year, in November and May.

German Studies Research Grant

This specialized DAAD program offers German Studies Research Grants to highly-qualified undergraduate and graduate students who are nominated by their department/program chairs. The grant may be used for short-term research (one to two months) in Germany.

International Students and Scholars

DAAD program offerings in North America are typically open full-time students and faculty at North American universities. In most cases, international students and scholars at North American universities are eligible for our programs if they if they meet certain requirements.
