Short-Term Lectureship

The Short-Term Lectureship provides financial support for hosting German professors and lecturers for short-term teaching engagements at universities in North America.

It aims to promote activity in specialized fields, help fill curricular gaps, or act as a stimulus for teaching and research. And by facilitating teaching, German educators who spearhead developments in pedagogy or a particular discipline share their knowledge, skills, and experiences with students and faculty on campuses in the United States and Canada. Open to all disciplines for lectureships in duration of four weeks to six months.

The North American host institution must commit to providing a monetary honorarium per month to the guest lecturer, as well as office space with equipment (desk, computer, telephone, etc) and support facilities (copiers, fax, etc), and assistance with housing, either in the provision of faculty housing or assistance with finding reasonable housing.

DAAD provides the guest lecturer with a stipend for housing, living expenses, transportation, and the shipment of teaching materials and personal luggage. The funding consists of a daily stipend, depending on the location of the host institution, for the duration of the lectureship; and transportation support, which includes a round trip, economy class, transatlantic flight and shipping of up to 50 kg for unaccompanied freight or 20 kg of accompanying luggage.

There is only one selection review date in 2023. Applications must be received in Bonn at least ten weeks prior in order to be reviewed on a particular date.

2023 SELECTION REVIEW DATE:

  • April 17-21, 2023  Submit before February 9, 2023

The application is to be jointly filed by the prospective guest lecturer and the host institution, and submitted to the DAAD Bonn head office. A description of the DAAD Short-Term Lectureship program with application instructions can also be found at: Kurzzeitdozenturen on the daad.de website (in German).
