Which DAAD program did you receive support through?

Gary Bruce: A German language course.

Where in Germany did you go with your DAAD funding?

Leipzig.

What comes to mind when you think of your DAAD experience in Germany?

Life-changing. My experience living with a German family and learning German caused me to have a life less ordinary. It provided me with both the skills and motivation to become a professor of German history.

What advice would you give a young scholar thinking of applying to a DAAD program?

Do not hesitate. There are usually trepidations for an undertaking abroad among young scholars, but it would be a real pity if they prevented the scholar from applying. A lifetime of memories and career enhancements await.
