Timeplan for your preparations
1 year in advance 
• Get information about study opportunities in Germany
• Check, if you meet all the requirements for admission to university. Do you have to do a language test?
• Get information about funding opportunities
1/2 year in adavance
• Decide what and where you want to study
• Contact the International Office (Akademisches Auslandsamt) of your host university in Germany
4 - 5 months prior begin of studies
• Apply for a place at university. Keep application deadlines in mind!
When you receive an approval notification...
• Organise a flat. Contact the Student Services at your host university and ask for a place in residence
• Do you need a visa? Apply for it now
• Do you possess a health insurance in Canada which can get approved by a public health insurance company in Germany? Haben Sie eine Krankenversicherung, die in Deutschland anerkannt wird? Ask for a written confirmation
1 - 2 week prior departure
• Check if you have all the important documents you need
• Book an accomodation for yout first nights in Germany
• Organise flat viewing

Suitcase check: Don't forget to pack...
• a passport which is valid for your entire stay in Germany (students from the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland only need their ID)
• your letter of admission from the higher education institution
• proof of sufficient financial resources (about 550 Euros per month)
• translated and certified copies of: birth certificate and leaving certificate of High School
• possibly: Visa, language certificate, proof of health insurance, vaccination record, international driver's license or the translation of the national license
